Willmott Dixon came to Bonwyke Design with a project requiring fancy designs with the idea or privacy to the side of Ark Academy’s new building. The academy based in Wembley, London is an all-through academy that educates 3 to 18 year olds.
As the intended face of the building would be in direct sunlight for most of the day, a robust product was needed that would maintain vibrant longevity. We opted to use cast vinyl which is rated as 9 years life expectancy. The design itself would reflect what the academy was about and incorporating student activities in to it.
Applying large graphics to external glass can be risky due to thermal stress. This is where sun rays cause the glass to be heated in different parts of the glass. Upon surveying the glass type, we were able to cater for what type of design could be used.
The end result was a design that met with the academy’s brand and will also last for many years.
